Nylon 12 is a nylon polymer. It is made of laurolactam monomers with 12 carbon atoms, so it is called PA12. Its properties are between those of short-chain aliphatic nylons (such as PA6 and PA66) and polyolefins. It is a long-chain nylon. It has low water absorption and density (1.01 g/mL) and a relatively long hydrocarbon chain length, which also gives it stability, meaning that any product made from PA12 raw materials can remain stable in a humid environment.
PA12 is also chemically resistant. In relatively dry conditions, it has a low sliding friction coefficient with materials such as steel, POM, and PBT. It has excellent wear resistance and stability, and has extremely high toughness and impact resistance. At the same time, PA12 is also a good electrical insulator and, like other polyamides, its insulation will not be affected by moisture. In addition, PA12 long glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic material has good noise reduction and vibration reduction properties.
PA12 has long been used in plastics in the automotive industry. For example, multi-layer tubes made of PA12 include fuel pipes, brake pipes, hydraulic pipes, intake systems, air boost systems, hydraulic systems, automotive electronics and lighting, cooling and air conditioning systems, oil systems, power systems and chassis used by many automobile manufacturers around the world. Due to its excellent chemical resistance and mechanical properties, PA12 is an ideal material for contact media containing hydrocarbons.
